UV LED print on plywood, A4 paper sheet
120 x 60 x 60 cm
A box constructed as a reference to a shipment I arranged from the port of Rotterdam to the port of Mariel in Cuba. Every plywood panel is printed with a scanned image of the work Hibiscus Fever, by American artist Robert Rauschenberg. From his Overseas Culture Interchange (ROCI) project, 1988. A red square with acrylic silkscreened images of Rauschenberg's Cuban photographs. Among the imagery is a micro-brigade worker, taking time off from his factory job to rebuild a house for a day-care center. The sculpture also includes a print of the cargo receipt confirmation from the Dutch shipping company Nirint, and drawings from my notebook.
